Counterspace (formerly JavaArts) Theater is a new addition to the Phnom Penh performing arts scene that plans to present a regular program of dance, music, poetry, film, talks and more! We are proud to work in partnership with Prumsodun Ok, a pioneering choreographer, academic, and TED fellow. Prumsodun Ok & NATYARASA, the dance company he founded, will cultivate a program of dance and performance as the resident dance company and with other artistic partners.

This is an exciting new development for Java and Artistic Director, Dana Langlois, that for 18 years has worked with and supported the Cambodian arts community to create innovative programming and projects, providing a platform for contemporary artists and thinkers. Across our three locations, we present unique programs, each with a different focus: curated exhibitions at the Independence Monument branch; Creative Generation, a competition-based exhibition program for young Cambodian artists and designers, at the Toul Kork branch; and now a black box theater at our branch in Toul Tom Poung. We are enthusiastic about expanding our program to include more live events and programs that are compelling and meaningful for our community here in Cambodia.
