DE-GENTRIFYING SIGNS IN ITALY:
REFLECTIONS FROM CAMBODIA
Since the 1980s, Phnom Penh's urban fabric is transforming dramatically, reflecting the interests of diverse actors. Today, gentrification is creeping into its city center, marked by condo towers and foreign influence. However, young Cambodian architects are reclaiming this space, championing local livability and walkability.
A photo essay explores a contrasting trend: de-gentrification in Vasto, Italy, my hometown. These early signs prompt reflection on reclaiming public spaces and reconsidering cultural identity. As these distant cities evolve, they offer a chance to envision a more inclusive, fluid urban future. (Carlo Santoro)
