Portuguese Language Course (PLC)

General information
1. Objective
This document provides general information regarding the operation of the Portuguese Language Course (PLC), organized by the University of Leiria and Oeste with the support of the International Relations Office.
The course is designed for Erasmus students, international students and external participants who wish to learn Portuguese.
Its main goal is to support Portuguese Language learning, academic and cultural integration.
2. Course structure and schedule
The course is taught online through digital platforms (announced at the beginning of each edition).
There are two editions per year:
- 1st Edition: October to January;
- 2nd Edition: March to June;
Levels follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1.
3. Registration
Registration is done through a digital platform. Access will be sent by email.
Registration is only valid after payment confirmation (see below).
4. Payment
Registration fees:
- €50 – Erasmus or international students enrolled at the University of Leiria and Oeste;
- €150 – External participants.
Payment can be made by MB Way, Visa or bank transfer (details provided during registration).
A digital receipt will be issued after payment confirmation.
Any fee changes will be announced at the beginning of each edition.
Please note: Registration fees are non-refundable in case of participant withdrawal.
5. Participation and attendance
Active participation is important.
A minimum of 75% attendance is required to receive the certificate. Participants must ensure:
- Stable internet connection;
- Device with microphone and camera;
- Respectful and punctual participation.
6. Assessment and certification
Participants must complete a final assessment appropriate to their level.
The final assessment will take place in person at one of the faculties of the University of Leiria and Oeste (Leiria, Caldas da Rainha or Peniche).
Students living outside Portugal may request to take the assessment online. In this case:
- Prior authorization from the teacher is required;
- The request must be sent by email with justification and proof of residence.
Students who meet attendance requirements will receive a Certificate of Participation including:
- Level attended (A1–C1);
- Final grade;
- Bilingual certificate (Portuguese/English).
To successfully complete the course, students must obtain a grade between 10 and 20 (scale 0–20).
The certificate is issued in digital format only, unless otherwise stated.
7. Conduct and responsibility
Participants must behave respectfully towards teachers and classmates.
Offensive or inappropriate behavior is not allowed.
Misuse of digital platforms may result in exclusion from the course.
8. Additional information
Within the scope of the course:
- Accommodation and visa support letters are not provided.
- The University of Leiria and Oeste is not legally authorized to issue certification for Portuguese nationality purposes.
